Welcome to Bergen
It gives me great pleasure, as Mayor of Bergen, to wish The Annual Spring Meeting on Cardiovascular Nursing 2006 a hearty welcome to our city!

Bergen, “the city between the seven hills”, was founded by Olav Kyrre in 1070.  With its 240.000 inhabitants Bergen is Norway’s second largest city.

Bergen occupies a favourable position as a communication node, and its nickname, “the Fjord Capital” provides an indication of its significance as the gateway to the fjord districts.

Its university and colleges, and its sporting and cultural institutions, contribute to the status of Bergen as the cultural heart of western Norway, and a range of attractions and events make the city a popular tourist destination. We invite all of our guests to participate in all of this, so that their stay in Bergen will provide them with new impulses and a host of good memories.

In my capacity as Mayor, I would like to wish The Working Group on Cardiovascular Nursing of the European Society of Cardiology and the Norwegian National Society of Cardiovascular Nurses
the best of luck with the event, and express my pleasure that Bergen can host it in 2006.

Herman Friele
